The Accessibility Advisory Committee (CAA) of the Executive Directorate of Human Rights at Unicamp (DeDH) held last Thursday (13) the first official welcoming action aimed at people with disabilities (PWD) who entered the University as students in 2026. Although primarily aimed at freshmen, the reception was extended to veterans, faculty and staff, promoting integration between different classes and the entire academic community. Called “University for all people”, the event took place on August 13, in the Auditorium of the Cesar Lates Central Library (BCCL).
According to the CAA coordinator, Erika Zambrano, the decision to hold the event in the second semester took into account the continuous flow of enrollments and admissions throughout the first half of the year, ensuring that the largest possible number of incoming students could participate.
“The main objective of the meeting was to bring students closer together and present the structure of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. By including representatives from various university bodies – such as the Central Library, the Executive Directorate for Student Support (Deape), the Unicamp Administration, and faculties in the areas of Health, Humanities, and Exact Sciences – the committee reinforced its capacity to offer interdisciplinary and comprehensive support to students' needs,” explained the coordinator.
Unicamp has at least 575 students with disabilities in undergraduate and graduate programs, according to 2024 data. In 2026, there were 134 new undergraduate students. This number refers to students who opt into the service, as they are not required to identify themselves as having a disability.
During the program, participants learned about the tools, the team, and how to use the Accessibility Laboratory (Labaces/Unicamp). At the end, a demonstration of Vamus (Accessible Electric Vehicle for Sustainable Urban Mobility), a means of transportation in operation on campus since 2023, aimed at facilitating the movement of people with visible or hidden disabilities, was held.
