The University Council (Consu) approved this Tuesday morning (7), in an extraordinary session, a salary readjustment of 3,92% for Unicamp employees. The increase, proposed by the Council of Rectors of the State Universities of São Paulo (Cruesp), will take effect from May 1, 2026. The proposal had 57 votes in favor, one vote against and one abstention.
According to the rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, the increase in the index – which went from the initially proposed 3,47% to 3,92% – was the result of a great effort by the Council of Rectors. “Cruesp works in an integrated way, and this is fundamental for the preservation of the system, which has existed since 1989,” he explained. According to him, the Council will monitor the evolution of revenues throughout the year and, if conditions become more favorable, may discuss further adjustments. “We understand that the indicators are not what we would like, but they are the possible ones at this moment,” argued the rector. A supplementary payment to employees, relating to May and June, will be made between July 20th and 24th.
The director of the Economics and Planning Advisory Office (Aeplan) at Unicamp, Thiago Baldini, revealed that the originally proposed adjustment of 3,47% would have an impact of R$ 76,7 million on the payroll. With the 3,92% adjustment, this cost is expected to rise to R$ 86,7 million, according to him.
According to Aeplan, the new adjustment should raise the weight of payroll in the total expenses of the university to 99,36%, if the collection of ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services) – the origin of state resources destined for universities – is maintained at R$ 187,1 billion, as foreseen in the 2026 budget. If the collection is below that, in the range of R$ 185,5 billion, the commitment of revenue to payroll will be 100,29%, informs Aeplan.

As a result of negotiations with the workers, the university administration had already announced the equalization of the food allowance with that practiced by the São Paulo State University (Unesp). With this, the value of the benefit increases from R$ 1.950 to R$ 2 per month, retroactive to June. The agreement also establishes an adjustment to the meal allowance from R$ 43,00 to R$ 50,00 per day, also retroactive to last month. The health allowance may increase to R$ 990 per month starting in January 2027, without retroactive payment, conditional on the performance of the state's share of ICMS (a state sales tax) revenue, up to R$ 185,4 billion.
