The Teaching, Research and Extension Chamber (Cepe) approved, this Tuesday (7), the creation of the Open Doors University Scholarship (UPA Scholarship), a modality intended for students who participate in the Unicamp Open Doors program (UPA) which, this year, will be held on August 22.
UPA is an annual event promoted by Unicamp, which welcomes thousands of high school and technical school students to introduce them to undergraduate courses, laboratories, research projects, and extension activities.
The new program creates a specific instrument for granting financial support to students involved in the preparation and execution of the UPA (University Extension Program) and establishes rules for the selection of scholarship recipients, workload, payment, and activities performed. Students regularly enrolled in technical, undergraduate, and graduate (stricto sensu) programs at Unicamp may receive the UPA Scholarship.
The selection will be the responsibility of the participating teaching, research, and extension units and bodies, which will define the criteria for choosing the students and forward the list of those selected to the UPA Organizing Committee.
Scholarship recipients may participate in activities such as event planning and organization, visitor reception and guidance, logistical support for participating units, setup and dismantling of spaces, distribution of institutional materials, and monitoring of workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, demonstrations, and presentations.
The number of scholarships will be determined annually by the UPA Organizing Committee, according to budgetary availability. The workload may vary between nine and 60 hours per edition of the event, and the scholarship amount will be proportional to the hours worked, calculated based on the hourly rate of the Institutional Project Support Program (Bolsa Papi) scholarship, from the Executive Directorate for Student Support and Retention (Deape). Payment will be made in a single installment.
The UPA Scholarship can be combined with other forms of financial aid, provided that this does not violate the rules of the other programs. Upon completion of the activities, students will receive a certificate of participation, the validation of which for extension activities will be at the discretion of the respective teaching, research, and extension units.
Until now, financial support for students working at UPA was provided through the Papi Scholarship. According to the justification presented by the University's General Coordination (CGU), the creation of the UPA Scholarship aims to adapt the management of the benefit to the growth of the event, provide greater legal and administrative security to the program, and ensure specific budgetary resources for its execution.
