The Negotiation Committee established by the Rectorate of the State University of Campinas held, this Tuesday (19), the first dialogue meeting with representatives of the student strike movement. The meeting was attended by 23 student representatives linked to different collectives, entities and working groups organized within the scope of the student mobilization, in addition to the presence of observers appointed by representative entities of technical-administrative and teaching staff.
The Negotiation Committee conducted the meeting respecting the autonomy of the speakers and representatives present, observing the time limits previously established for the meeting. Throughout the meeting, topics related to student retention, university infrastructure, accessibility, affirmative action policies, transportation, housing, support services, and academic organization were presented.
The diversity of representations present and the breadth of the issues raised produced a set of heterogeneous demands, in some cases diffuse and with overlaps between different areas and institutional spheres of the University. The Commission also observed that some of the demands presented are directly related to the responsibilities of the Central Administration and the Rectorate, while others concern specific competencies of the teaching units, faculties, institutes and other university bodies.
Given this scenario, the following initial steps were defined:
• Request to the strike committee for a single document containing the consolidation and systematization of the demands presented;
• The Negotiation Committee will conduct a preliminary analysis of the received agendas, identifying the institutional competencies involved and the possibilities for action;
• Thematic organization of requests, distinguishing issues directly related to the Rector's Office from those linked to teaching units and other university bodies;
• continuation of the institutional dialogue process in a new meeting to be held after receiving and analyzing the consolidated agenda.
The Rector's Office reaffirms its ongoing commitment to dialogue and to welcoming proposals for institutional improvement submitted by the student community. It emphasizes, however, that any actions must adhere to the University's budgetary constraints, current legislation, and the necessary preservation of institutional balance among the different segments that comprise the university community—students, technical-administrative staff, and faculty.
The University will remain committed to conducting the ongoing dialogue process in a calm, respectful, and institutional manner.
