University Rector participates in event for Brazilian Army Day.

The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, participated this Thursday (16), in São Paulo, in the celebrations for the Brazilian Army Day. To commemorate the date, the Force awarded the Brazilian Army Medal to personalities and institutions that “have contributed, in a relevant way, to strengthening the image, integration and prestige of the Brazilian Army within society”. 

“Unicamp is a public institution whose mission is to offer excellent education, conduct cutting-edge research, and develop extension projects, and, because of this, it is open to interacting with all dimensions that make up our society,” said the rector after the ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Southeast Military Command in Ibirapuera, in the city of São Paulo. According to the rector, the Army has a great interest in building projects and agreements with universities to establish research in the areas of technology and innovation.

The former rector of USP, Carlos Carlotti, and the state secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation, Vahan Agopyan, also participated in the ceremony.

According to the Army, the awarding of the medal "reflects the Force's recognition of the relevant services rendered and the ongoing support for initiatives aimed at consolidating the civic, patriotic, and democratic values ​​that guide the Institution." 

In Brasília, the date was celebrated with a military graduation ceremony. The event took place in the urban military sector of the federal capital, where the Army headquarters is located, with the presence of civilian and military authorities. 

The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro, who was received with the honors prescribed by military protocol. Several other civilian and military authorities attended the ceremony, in addition to guests and students from schools located in Brasília.  

Army Day is celebrated in April in honor of the First Battle of Guararapes, which took place in 1648 in Pernambuco.
