Rector of Unicamp from 2021 to 2025, food engineer Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles was appointed this Wednesday (15) to the position of administrative director of the Technical-Administrative Council (CTA) of the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp).

The CTA, the body representing the foundation's executive board, is composed of the president, the scientific director, and the administrative director. The Council is directly responsible for executing the foundation's activities and implementing the guidelines approved by its Superior Council. The term of office is three years, renewable for two additional terms.
“I feel deeply honored by the appointment to the Administrative Board of Fapesp, an institution that is a fundamental pillar of science and innovation in São Paulo and Brazil,” said Meirelles. “Contributing to initiatives of such economic and social relevance is a challenge that I undertake with total commitment and motivation,” he added.
FAPESP is one of the main agencies for funding science and technology in Brazil. Its main function is to finance and support scientific and technological research in all areas of knowledge in the state of São Paulo.
Meirelles is a food engineer with a PhD in Process Engineering from TH Merseburg (Germany) and a PhD in Economics from Unicamp. He is a full professor at the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA) at Unicamp and a member of the Higher Council of Fapesp and the Board of Trustees of the Center for Research and Development in Telecommunications (CPQD).
“I express my gratitude to the Superior Council for the nomination and to the state government for the trust placed in me. It is a privilege to have been chosen from a list composed of professionals of the highest technical and scientific excellence. I reiterate my commitment to collaborating with the development of our state and the country in this new journey,” he concluded. Meirelles' term begins in May.
