The Rectorate of the State University of Campinas reaffirms, in relation to the theft of research samples at the Institute of Biology (IB) and the respective developments of the investigations conducted by the Federal Police (PF), its commitment to due process as well as to the internal inquiry initiated to investigate the case.
The University will strictly adhere to procedural and institutional norms. Detailed statements regarding the merits of the investigation will be made exclusively within the official court records, both internally and externally. It is important to emphasize that all collected material is under the legal custody and responsibility of the Federal Police.
Unicamp, upon contacting the competent authorities, delegated to the security agency the responsibility of forwarding the seized items for expert analysis, which is already being carried out by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Out of respect for the legal authority of the Federal Police and in order not to compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigations, the University will not comment, for now, on the specific content of the materials in question.
Unicamp reiterates that it continues to fully cooperate with police and judicial authorities to clarify the facts and, should criminal implications be proven, will take all appropriate measures to hold those involved accountable under current legislation.
