University Rector receives centenary medal from the Fire Department.

The ceremony was held at the corporation's headquarters in Franco da Rocha, São Paulo.

The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, received, on the morning of this Tuesday (10), the Commemorative Medal of the Centenary of the Fire Department of the State of São Paulo. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the corporation in Franco da Rocha-SP – considered the largest fire training center in Latin America. According to the firefighters, the tribute “is a recognition of the relevant services rendered” to the corporation.

"The award was given to the rector, but in reality, it is a recognition of the good relations between the corporation and Unicamp," said Montagner.

By the end of this year, construction of a Fire Department unit on the Unicamp campus in Campinas should be completed. The structure will house an administrative headquarters and an operational fire station. The new facilities will include fire and rescue vehicles to serve Campinas and surrounding cities.

"This equipment is extremely important not only for the University – which will be safer – but for the entire region," added the rector.

The new building – which will occupy an area of 3,8 m² – will serve 168 municipalities, covering the regions of Jundiaí, Sorocaba and Piracicaba, as well as Campinas. Currently, the headquarters operates in a building located in the Taquaral neighborhood.

The area designated for the entity is 5 m² and is located at the intersection of Avenida Prefeito José Roberto Magalhães Teixeira and Avenida José Próspero Jacobucci. According to the corporation, this is a strategic location due to its proximity to the roundabout providing access to the highway and the avenue leading to PUC Campinas.
