The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, received the Comptroller General of the State of São Paulo, Rodrigo Fontenelle, in an audience this Tuesday (3). They discussed ways to improve the control mechanisms for the efficient and ethical use of public resources. In office since October of last year, Fontenelle says that prevention is one of the main guidelines of the work. And it is because of this, he affirms, that the Comptroller's Office has expanded training courses for civil servants in state public agencies.

“The fight against corruption starts with prevention,” he teaches. “I came to Unicamp to offer my services to the University to work on improving integrity mechanisms.” These mechanisms encompass a set of tools, norms, and practices aimed at preventing or identifying acts of corruption, fraud, and ethical misconduct in public administration.

According to Fontanelle, in mid-May, the Comptroller's Office will hold a congress to deal exclusively with integrity. "It would be very good if Unicamp could send representatives," he suggested.

The Comptroller General's Office has been established at Unicamp since 2019. Headed by Professor Carlos Etulian, the body is responsible for maintaining and promoting the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of the University's internal operations. Furthermore, it is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations.

Montagner says the University has learned a lot from the Comptroller's Office. “Since the creation of the office at the University, we have evolved a great deal. We created a method and today we believe we have built a robust system,” he stated. “But it is always very important to have open doors at the State Comptroller's Office. We can make inquiries, always with the aim of improving our systems,” he added.

The general coordinator of Unicamp, Fernando Coelho, said he considers the training programs important. “We are very interested in this collaboration. And there is a lot we can do together.” According to Coelho, representatives from Unicamp will be present at the congress in May.
