The new building for the Interior Fire Department (CBI) 1, currently under construction at Unicamp in Campinas, will house an administrative headquarters and an operational headquarters, according to information provided this Thursday (9) by PM Captain Lais Marcatti Tofanello Antunes, the project's technical inspector. According to Antunes, the new facilities will have fire and rescue vehicles to serve Campinas and surrounding cities. Construction is expected to be completed in July of next year, she said.
The building – which is expected to occupy an area of 3,8 m² – will have cistern systems for collecting rainwater, interlocking paving to allow soil permeability and solar energy systems, following the environmental guidelines set out in Unicamp's master plan.
The new command will serve 168 municipalities spanning the regions of Jundiaí, Sorocaba, Piracicaba, and Campinas. Currently, the command operates out of a building in the Taquaral neighborhood.
The area designated for the organization is 5 m² and is located at the intersection of Prefeito José Roberto Magalhães Teixeira Avenue and José Próspero Jacobucci Avenue. According to the organization, this is a strategic location, as it is close to the roundabout that provides access to the highway and the avenue that leads to PUC Campinas.

Approved by the University Council (Consu) in 2015, the decision to allocate the area for the construction of the Regional Fire Department Command gained strength from 2021 onwards.
"This proximity to Unicamp is very important for the force. Because we're on campus, we can consider joint initiatives, like the one we recently organized with the IOU to commemorate Children's Day," said Antunes, referring to an awareness campaign held at the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. "Furthermore, the location is strategic; it's close to highways, facilitating vehicle movement, and thus, we can provide faster, more expeditious care," said the PM captain.
Unicamp's rector, Paulo Cesar Montagner, said he has been following the project to establish a Fire Department at the university for many years. "It's crucial for Unicamp to have a service like the Fire Department. We have a lot of research going on, handling materials that require special care—not to mention our hospital and the surrounding community in Barão," the rector said. "Unicamp is proud to partner with an institution that shares humanitarian and life-saving values, exactly like those we cultivate here at the university," he concluded.
