Rodolfo Ilari is not a great expert in German. After a bad experience in secondary school teaching, the retired Unicamp professor spent decades avoiding the language, despite his long career in the fields of linguistics and semantics. But when he received the manuscript of the book... Romanische Sprachgeschichte (History of Romance Languages) along with a dedication in Portuguese by the author, Georg A. Kaiser, curiosity got the better of me. Five years later, the result of this journey can be seen in History of Romance Languages, translated by Ilari in partnership with linguists Renato Miguel Basso and Maurício Sartori Resende.
