Ementa: O curso visa a discutir, em perspectiva histórica e analítica, o tratamento humeano da noção de causa. O exame detalhado das contribuições de Hume é precedido de um breve estudo do pano de fundo filosófico sobre o qual trabalhou. No final, empreende-se uma análise das posições de outro autor importante da vertente empirista, Russell, procurando-se identificar como ele interpretou, aproveitou e, em seus textos tardios, modificou a herança recebida de Hume.
